ART by Colleen (CJ) Irwin

Memorial Petscapes came about through a friend asking for a custom abstract using a small amount of her pet cat Harley’s ashes. My first thought was ‘eew’ but then I began researching the properties of carbon ash and mediums that would mix well. I discovered other artists around the world doing this; some even using human ash. As my friend was always favorable to my encaustics, I set about using wax and oil. Harley turned out magnificently and you can see the art piece pictured below.

All that is required is 3 tablespoons of ash delivered in a well-sealed glass jar (no paper or plastic). I would like to take some time with you to get a deeper understanding of your pet so that it will come thru in the art. A small piece of your pet’s favorite toy or collar can also be incorporated. We’ll discuss size, mediums, color and price. Costs are very reasonable and sizes are standard for easy framing.

I can custom paint your urn, if that’s all you need. If it’s a piece of art to hang on your wall and make you smile every time you look at it, then that’s what you want.
